1. Make sure you're hydrated. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water all day not just an hour before class.
2. Don't eat anything heavy two hours before class. You're gonna be going through compressions and extensions in your yoga practice so it's not a good idea.
3. If you've practiced somewhere else and it's your first time at Pura Vida, leave your ego at the door. Our practice is different. Our practice moves. It's physical and most of our students have been with us since we opened doors. Their practice has evolved. Many of them are advancing in different areas. Don't try to keep up or duplicate them. It's really important that you're patient. Take your time and don't try to kill yourself in there. Patience is key.
4. First few classes, set yourself up in the back of the room. This will allow you to see what others are doing and that will help you make better sense of the instruction you're given.
5. Give yourself permission to stop when you need to. If you do feel overwhelmed, try going into child's pose to calm your nervous system or step outside and get some air. That's what yoga is all about, taking care of yourself.
I hope these simple tips help your experience on your next hot yoga class. I also hope no one took offense on the title of this write up. Have fun and trust me when I tell you that hot yoga can offer a tremendous amount of benefits to you. Just remember, patience is key. Keep showing up and your body will acclimate to the heat in no time and if you're coming to Pura Vida you too will be advancing in no time. Your advancement will come through experience and changes you create in your body. Best of luck my friends.
To your health & success,
Marco Gamez
