Do you ever get into ruts with your yoga practice? Do you ever feel burned out? Do you ever choose “happy hour” over hot yoga? Do you ever have moments when you rather sit on your couch and “veg. out” instead of making it to the yoga studio? Please don’t tell me I’m the only one! That would be pretty bad. Here I am promoting Hot Yoga and I’m the only one slacking. But I know that’s not the case. I know we all go through these moments. We’re all human and sometimes life gets busy and other times we simply need a different outlet. The important thing is to make sure we don’t allow these moments to go on for too long. That we don’t allow these moments to get to a point where we become unhealthy physically and/or mentally. We all understand the benefits exercise can offer and if you’ve been practicing hot yoga, you know how much more hot yoga can bring to the table. Here are 5-tips to help you stay consistent with your hot yoga practice.
1. Stop being so hard on yourself.
We all go through hurdles. You’re not alone when it comes to taking breaks. But again, don’t let them go for too long. If you’ve been “MIA” from Pura Vida get back in here as soon as possible. You know you’ll feel better once you do. See you soon Boss.
2. Plan your yoga practice ahead of time.
Write down your yoga practice in your to do list. Schedule it in as if you had a doctor’s appointment. If you make it in to practice three times per week, you’ll be at your best. You’ll think clearer, be in a better mood, sleep better and overall you’ll feel and be better.
3. Don’t make your hot yoga practice an option.
We often say that your yoga practice should be much like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. You wouldn’t skip out on those things would you? Well some do, but I don’t care to get into that right now. The point is that if you make it a must, you’ll have a better chance of going than not.
4. Always be ready.
I had a student a while back who would purchase a case of water and store it in the back seat of her car along with her yoga mat and some changing close. You might think that’s a bit extreme, but it worked for her and that’s all that matters. Find your own way, but being ready to go will motivate you that much more.
5. No time? Come on, we all get 24 hours. Surely you can make the time.
Don’t fall into this mental set back. Yes we’re busy, I understand. But we easily spend a few hours per week on the couch watching The Voice or The X Factor. If you’re smiling here, it means you can make time. Remember that our classes at Pura Vida are only an hour long. And you know how fast time passes once you’re in there. And more importantly, you know how much better you feel when you’re done.
Some of you have been missing for a while and I hope to see you back before the year is over. Lets finish this year strong and lets not wait for the new year to start anything. Let’s just get to it now! God bless and Happy Holidays to all of you. See you soon.
To your health & success,
Marco Gamez
