What “style” of yoga do we teach at Pura Vida?

We at Pura Vida specialize on “Hatha Yoga” in a heated room.  The word Hatha can be broken down into two parts: “Ha” meaning sun and “Tha” meaning moon.  Some say, it’s the joining of two opposites.  Such as effort and surrender or movement and stillness.  Essentially, it is a physical “style” of yoga.  The practice itself may consist of one or two breathing exercises and a variation of poses all equipped to bring about self awareness.  An understanding of where your body is currently.

For us, what’s most important is how it can help.  It’s about real life improvements on your health.  The practice itself will challenge you physically and it will help you become healthier.  It will help you release things like toxins, stress, emotions, accumulation or build ups inside your body, gases, and tightness.

Our goals at Pura Vida are to remind you of how important your health is.  That you matter and that you should not lose sight of our health.  Remind you that if others depend on you, your health should be a priority for you and for them.

Therefore, the simple answer to the question of “What style of yoga do we teach,” is that we teach “Hatha Yoga” in a controlled heated room.  The temperature is under 100 degrees and the practice is physical.  The classes are an hour long and it’s for both beginner and advanced students alike.

If you’re a gym person, don’t worry.  Our practice will challenge you.  If you’re a runner, you’re going to appreciate that there is no impact or wear and tear on your joints.  If you’re a swimmer, you’ll appreciate that it works every system in your body.  If you’re a cyclist, you’re going to love how much it will improve your endurance.  If you’ve been a couch potato, you’ll appreciate the fast results just after a couple of weeks.  And if you’re bored with a yoga practice that is always the same, you’re going to appreciate how much more you’re going to learn.

In closing, I’d like to leave you with this.  We only care about helping you take notice of how you’re treating your body.  We care about helping you find your strength.  Practicing yoga has saved my life and I have witnessed others make amazing strides in their lives with a consistent practice.  If we make it only about that, we will become a healthier community in no time.  It works!  Ask anyone of the nearly 20 million people who are doing it.  It is just a great way to exercise and balance everything inside your body.  And trust me when I tell you that feeling healthy and strong will have a positive influence on your mindset.  You’ll think clearer, you’ll respond faster and better to any challenges and you will be simply be happier!

To your health & success,
Marco Gamez
