5-Key Points to help you get the most out of your yoga practice.

1.       The Breath
2.       The Asanas
3.       Learning to Relax
4.       A Sensible Diet
5.       Thinking Positive (not passing judgment) & Meditation

·         The Breath
Do you realize that most of us walk around using a very small percentage of our lungs?  And most of us are completely unaware of the importance of our need for oxygen in the body.  The breathing techniques often used in your yoga practice are designed to improve elasticity of the lungs, cleanse them of stale air, eliminate toxins (carbon dioxide), and crea
te energy (vitality).
·          The Asanas
The asanas are your yoga postures.  The asanas are often performed in a slow fluid movement.  Through these controlled movements we can build strength, suppleness, improve concentration and increase flexibility.  When performed properly, the asanas create awareness of the breath and the body.  This in turn helps you improve your discipline and honor your health.
·          Learning to Relax
When you’re practicing yoga, the more relaxed you are the more tension your body releases.  Avoid practicing in an aggressive form.  After you come out of a pose, try to find stillness: by being still, you automatically calm your nervous system and your breath.  This will prevent you from creating anxiety and help you conserve energy.
·          A Sensible Diet
Eating sensible and wholesome is always best: foods that your body can easily digest.  For example: vegetables & whole grains are filled with fiber, fruits are natural in sugar & help you hydrate your body, and beans are a great source of protein.  On the other hand, processed foods are filled with fillers (chemicals that most times our bodies can’t break down. ex: hydrogynated oils), and canned foods are often high in sodium.  Drinks with High Fructose Sugars or artificial ingredients should be avoided at all times; i.e. sodas.
·         Thinking Positive (not passing judgment) & Meditation
For us to reach a meditative state, we must be in tuned with our breath, body and mind.  Through a consistent yoga practice, you will strengthen your body and become aware of yourself: your habits, reactions, thoughts and your actions.  With a consistent practice you will be able to think clearly and positive thereby reaching your own peace.  Taking time in your busy life to practice yoga will help you recharge your batteries and make better decisions.  Meditation therefore becomes a state of consciousness.
